Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X: Is It Even Worth It? (2023 Review)

In this blog, I will share my detailed review about Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X. Windows laptops have spent years attempting to compete with Apple’s MacBook Pro, but thus far only a select few have been able to match the MacBook Pro’s desirable trinity of a sleek form factor, lightning-fast performance, and prolonged battery life.

Detailed Review: Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X falls well short of those aims in terms of graphics capability; however, it makes up for this shortcoming by having a more affordable price tag. This laptop delivers a good overall combination of features and characteristics, making it a competitive choice to the MacBook Pro for those on a tighter budget. Despite the absence of a really distinctive feature or specification, this laptop offers an outstanding all-around mix of features and specifications.

Key Features

Taking notes is essential in the search for the best laptop. You’ll need those reminders as you wade through the ocean of dazzling gadgets. Don’t give in to the temptation of retina displays and blissful keyboards. Your hopes and ambitions should be fuel for your battery, not its limit. As for storage? A little attic is no place for your beloved cat movies. Prepare yourself like the Sherlock Holmes of computers by taking notes of the most important characteristics.

High Resolution Screen

On this laptop, the crisp graphics are made possible by a resolution of 3K and a refresh rate of 120Hz. Even fast-moving action seems to be smooth throughout.

Convenient Body

This laptop, which has a display that is 14 inches in size and weighs a starting total of 1.5 kilogrammes, is small and light enough to transport without any difficulty between your house and your place of business. Not only does this laptop look and feel fantastic, but it also performs really well.

Stunning Graphics

The GTX 1650 and the RTX 3050 graphics processors are both available in laptops manufactured by Lenovo. These graphics chips provide blisteringly fast rates that are well-suited for light content creation and casual gaming.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X Design

A café or business won’t notice the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X’s bland design. It looks great with a contoured body and a narrow bezel around the 14.5-inch display. Lenovo calls this laptop grey, but I see a hint of blue that sets it apart. Despite its high-end CPU and GPU, my model is compact. The 14-inch MacBook Pro uses a single chip for CPU and GPU cores, whereas the Air is just 15.9mm thicker at 15.5.

I have carried the laptop around the office with one hand despite its 1.5 kg weight, which causes wrist strain. However, I have carried it in a rucksack with my Dell XPS 13 laptop and tablet to and from work without any problems. Lenovo’s laptop lid has a sparkling ‘Yoga’ emblem in the upper left corner and a Lenovo sign on the opposite side. Without the branding, it’s a metal cover. The shiny top does reflect light beautifully, but it also highlights every fingerprint I’ve ever left on it.

Given that the laptop’s hinge cannot be spun 360 degrees until snapped, the “Lenovo Yoga” name seems doubtful. Since I can bend the screen back to the desk, the laptop may have attended introductory yoga classes, but I’m not sure it’s useful. Lenovo’s Yoga contains a headphone jack, USB-A connector, two USB-C ports (one of which supports Thunderbolt 4), and an HDMI output, unlike Apple and Dell’s slim laptops. The right-side camera shutdown button ensures privacy. The 1080p webcam blurs details in weak light. However, it is plenty for Zoom meetings with friends and colleagues.

Summary:

  • Modest Design; Grey Colour Choice
  • Considering its technical specifications, its slim profile is a plus.
  • Lack of a fingerprint reader

Keyboard

The keyboard is located between two upward-firing speakers, yet there is still enough room for large, easily struck keys. A 14-inch laptop, as is the usual these days, lacks a numeric keypad. While I would have preferred a fingerprint reader for fast and easy logins, Lenovo has instead guaranteed that the camera is compatible with Windows Hello. So long as the laptop is in a well-lit area, it can identify your face and sign you in automatically. However, this function may be finicky.

Instead of succumbing to the allure of haptic feedback, Lenovo has elected to stick with a traditional physical trackpad. It’s big, it’s silky, and it responds quickly, therefore it meets all my requirements.

Screen

In reality, the 14.5-inch display on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X makes the 13-inch display on the Dell XPS 13 seem laughably small. Although it has the appearance of a large-screen laptop, the Lenovo is compact enough to be carried about easily. The resolution of the display is an impressive 3K (3072 x 1920). Images and videos are crisp, but the IPS screen technology isn’t as vivid or dynamic as those on an OLED or MacBook Pro.

I utilised a colorimeter for some in-depth testing of the Lenovo display. The maximum brightness of 416 nits is much over the typical maximum brightness of a laptop display. Unfortunately, the laptop has trouble showing really dark scenes, and they come out looking slightly bit grey for my taste. This laptop has a typical refresh rate of 120 Hz, making for fluid on-screen action, particularly while playing games. Lenovo gives you the choice of a glare-free or glare display, as well as the option to pay extra for a touchscreen.

Summary:

  • Screen size of 14.5″, resolution of 3K
  • Refresh rate of 120 Hz
  • It doesn’t have as many colours as the MacBook Pro

Battery

The trade-off for quick graphics performance is that discrete GPUs, like the optional Nvidia GTX 1650 and RTX 3050 processors available with the Lenovo, may be a severe drain on battery life. Our PCMark office simulation test revealed that my Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X, which is equipped with the RTX 3050, had a battery life of just 6 hours and 26 minutes. That’s not too long of a battery life, especially comparing with the MacBook, which can work for more than 12 hours away from an electrical outlet.

I also used a 1440p resolution YouTube video to test the battery life in perpetuity. Unfortunately for those of you who want the maximum available Netflix quality, the Lenovo lasted for 4 hours and 34 minutes this time. Selecting a laptop without a dedicated graphics processor can significantly improve its battery life. It’s nice that you have the option to choose either performance or battery life, but with a MacBook Air, you won’t have to.

Summary:

  • The battery test lasted a little less than 6 hours.
  • Can’t keep up with the MacBook Pro.

Performance

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X runs on a choice of an Intel i5-12500H or i7-12700H CPU as a premium upgrade. The Lenovo has enough of power despite using a CPU from Intel’s 13th generation. By default, you get Intel’s integrated graphics, but Lenovo lets you upgrade to either Nvidia’s GTX 1650 or RTX 3050. Lenovo gave me their top-tier model, which has an Intel Core i7-12700H processor, an Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics processor, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB solid-state drive. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X may be had for as cheap as $1,324.30 if you’re willing to compromise on features.

How does the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X stack up in terms of performance, however, in comparison to comparable laptops? To figure this out, I ran a series of benchmark tests, and you can see the outcome in the accompanying graph. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X has great performance for the price. I noticed an instant speed gain on moving from my Dell XPS 13 laptop. Web pages and programmes loaded and ran much more quickly. Even basic content production tasks, like editing photos and videos, should run well.

The Lenovo laptop performed well in gaming benchmarks; at 1440p and maximum settings, it averaged 32 frames per second in Dead Island 2. The performance was improved to 34 frames per second by switching to 1080p. Warning: under heavy load, the laptop’s fans might become quite noisy. It’s nothing that can’t be muffled by headphones, but it may be distracting if you’re trying to get work done.

Summary:

  • Supporting the latest Intel 12th Generation Processor Technology
  • NVIDIA’s separate graphics processing unit is available as an option.
  • Extremely noisy fans.

Final Thoughts

For novice video editors and bloggers, I recommend the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X as one of the finest Windows laptops money can buy. With the great features, the pricing is surprisingly low. The MacBook is the Lenovo’s most apparent competitor, and its performance falls between that of the M2-powered Air and the M2-equipped Pro. However, it’s hard to suggest the Lenovo to the creative audience since it falls short of the competition in battery life and colour range. However, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X is an excellent choice if you’re searching for a less expensive MacBook replacement with ample power for light gaming.
