Apple MacBook Pro 16.2-inch: Master the Game (2023 Review)

In this Blog, I will give you detailed review of Apple MacBook Pro 16.2-inch (2023). Apple introduced its first high-performance Apple Silicon CPUs in 2021, along with a new product line of high-powered laptops with updated designs for both the outside and the displays of the devices. The shift will become less obvious in 2023. Nevertheless, even a relatively minor upgrade like as the MacBook Pro 16.2-inch (2023) leaves space for further development.

Our Verdict

Another one of Apple’s high-quality laptops, the MacBook Pro 16.2-inch (2023) is designed for mobile professionals that need a great deal of processing power. The fact that this laptop only received little upgrades from the version before it does not change the fact that it is among the best available today.

Detailed Review: Apple MacBook Pro 16.2-inch (2023)

The introduction of the new MacBook Pro models for this year was carried out in a manner that was somewhat low-key, with just a press release serving to announce the news. You will get essentially the same item in 2023 as you did in 2021, but with more capabilities thanks to the M2 Pro and M2 Max. If you are familiar with the M1 Pro or M1 Max, 16-inch MacBook Pro, you will feel perfectly at home in this environment. That is an incredible piece of gear, and all it needs is its CPU to be brought up to date. Therefore, if you currently own a laptop that was manufactured in 2021, you may forego purchasing this model.

Keep an eye out for the M3 Pro and M3 Max versions of the MacBook Pro, which might come out in 2024, but it’s also possible that this won’t happen until much further down the road. On the other hand, it is anticipated that select MacBooks, but not the Pro, will launch with M3 processors this year. On the other hand, the most current iteration of the MacBook Pro not only maintains the excellent display and remarkable battery life of its predecessors, but also offers the greatest level of performance that can be found on an Apple laptop.

This portable computer is no ordinary notebook; rather, it is a supercharged paradise of speed, graphics, and networking that will have you exclaiming, “Mac me up, buttercup!” So, strap on and prepare to enter the wondrous world of the Apple MacBook Pro 16.2, in which cutting-edge technology and awesomeness converge in an explosion of user-friendly brilliance.

Stunning Graphics

Master Display

You may choose between a 14-inch and 16-inch screen, both of which having a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a sufficient amount of brightness. Take in the breathtaking scenery in all of its exquisite clarity on the high-definition screen. Enjoy visually beautiful results owing to colours with a high contrast ratio, details that are very clear, and wide viewing angles.

Impressive Performance

You have the option of using either the M2 Pro or the M2 Max CPU, and you may have as much as 96 GB of RAM. You may anticipate lightning-fast performance and fluid transitions between tasks with such a powerful central processing unit and such a vast quantity of random access memory (RAM). It was designed to make it simple to carry out laborious tasks.

Lightweight Design

The MacBook Pro 16.2’s elegant design and light weight make it a convenient travel companion. Its sleek design and practical features make it an excellent choice for those always on the move.

Apple MacBook Pro 16.2-inch (2023) Design

Despite the fact that it retains many of the same fundamental design elements as its predecessor, the MacBook Pro (2021), the 2023 model is a stunning bit of engineering. After making such a significant overhaul to the visual look of the series, it seemed unlikely that Apple would make any significant adjustments to the next sequel.

The availability of the 13-inch M2 Pro model, which is more analogous to the MacBook Air than these actual pro-aimed varieties, adds some uncertainty to the MacBook Pro range. These versions are designed specifically for professionals. There is just one model of the Pro line that has not been updated to use Apple’s newest design language, and I have no clue why Apple continues to sell that model. There is a choice between 14- and 16-inch variants that are equipped with more powerful Pro CPUs (M2 Pro and M2 Max, respectively). Depending on the configuration choices you choose, the 14-inch model can achieve everything that the 16-inch model is capable of doing as well.

For the sake of this review, I experimented with the 14-inch model, and I discovered that it is a fantastic option for a laptop that is both lightweight and versatile. The display on the 16-inch model is more expansive, making it an excellent choice for video, photo, or creative tasks. Even if it isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing laptop on the market, I’m not going to hold that against it. Apple has taken the feedback from its customers to heart, and rather than focusing on squeezing every last bit of performance out of an already tiny gadget, the company has given priority on reinstating previously lost capabilities.

Summary:

  • A wide variety of port options.
  • Highly responsive keys and trackpad.
  • Elegant style

Keyboard

The mouse and the keyboard are likewise of the highest quality. The keys are big enough to be easily pushed, and they have a dark border around them, which makes it easier to use them in low-light settings. The controversial Touch Bar, which consists of a large function row and a sensor for Touch ID, is located above the regular keyboard on the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Because they are roomy, responsive, and offer haptic feedback that gives the impression that the pad is really moving, Apple’s trackpads continue to be the best of any laptop manufacturer.

Screen

This laptop’s display is exactly the same as the one that was used by Apple in earlier iterations of the product. My biggest issue with the display is the notch, which is still there despite the fact that it seems to serve very little use, with the possible exception of making room for a high-quality 1080p camera. Although the majority of programmes have been developed to work around the notch, and black bars obscure it when movies are being played, I can see how some people could find the notch bothersome. If there’s one thing I could recommend, it’s making use of the extra space to include a second biometric unlocking mechanism.

The 16.2-inch 2023 MacBook feature the sharpest displays of any MacBook, which makes them an enticing option to the MacBook Air in addition to the performance limitation. The majority of the company’s rivals utilise LCD screens, however the 16.2-inch MacBook has a Mini LED display, which is a huge step forward from those. It combines the high brightness levels of LCD with the remarkable contrast, inky black, and beautiful colours that are typical of OLED panels of this size. The screen does not quite have the same “punch” as an OLED display, in my view, but it is very near.

The display has been enhanced to work best with HDR workflows. This screen is fantastic for editing HDR videos, and it can play back HDR content just as well as the best TVs. The visual quality was outstanding when I streamed Dune from iTunes in Dolby Vision 4K. Apple states that the high levels of brightness in Dunkirk may reach 1600 nits during flame explosions in dark conditions, but typical HDR is only 1000 nits.

Eventually, I want to see Apple release a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, but the company will need to make improvements to both its hardware and software before that can take place (2025 is the rumoured release date). I can breathe a sigh of relief now that this does not have a touch screen since it would be really absurd.

Summary:

  • When used with HDR material, it becomes blindingly bright.
  • Sizes 14 and 16 inches available.
  • It’s not obtrusive, but Notch might be put to better use.

Battery

The battery life is the icing on the cake, elevating this laptop from superb creative tool to magnificent marvel. The 16-inch MacBook Pro’s (2023) battery life has changed my perspective on laptop batteries. The battery will easily last a whole workday without dropping below 20–30%, so I don’t need to bring my charger to the workplace unless I plan on performing hours of GPU-intensive chores. I suppose I could get three days out of it if I had been more cautious about shutting programmes and used Safari instead of Chrome. While individual experiences may vary, I think you’ll find the battery life to be satisfactory.

Whether you’re using electricity or the battery, the device continues to function normally. Even when far from an outlet, such as on the bus or train, the device’s function will not suffer. I put these speed tests to the test and got the same results every time. While I didn’t utilise a 2014 Macbook Pro M1 Pro with comparable specs, my experience with other M1 Pro and M1 Max devices suggests that battery life is comparable. This is consistent with my testing, but Apple is known to exaggerate the life of their batteries by citing features like the ability to watch videos when disconnected.

I conducted an experiment to verify Apple’s two battery claims, and my findings were better. Using the Apple TV software and dimming the screen to half brightness, it can supposedly play a 1080p movie for 15 hours. After repeating the procedure, the longest my experiment with the machine lasted was 18 hours. Another one was configured to test web surfing endurance; Apple promises it will last 10 hours, but I got just under 12 hours. Neither of these is a common scenario, but it does demonstrate the high efficiency of the processor and battery.

Summary:

  • In terms of battery life, it is among the greatest laptops available.
  • The MagSafe charging connector is appreciated, and so is the USB-C port.

Performance

The majority of the updates for the 2023 version are internal. If you’ve just updated your router, you’ll love the new processors, expanded RAM choices, and Wi-Fi 6E. Both the 14-inch and 16-inch variants are available with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets, as well as a broad variety of storage, memory, and other upgrades, depending on the buyer’s budget. Certain add-ons need the more powerful Max chip.

There has been a great amount of progress made with Apple’s Silicon in the few years that it has been commercially accessible. Initially, there was a lot of excitement, but later on, some people started to question whether or not it was compatible with apps. It has been more difficult to find a good software that does not either work or have a version available for Apple Silicon. There are a lot more programmes on the list, such as Chrome, Photoshop, and Lightroom.

Even in its current iteration, MacOS is not a platform that was developed with gaming in mind. Although the processing speed is sufficient to run even the most taxing games, there are not enough games available to make the purchase worthwhile for the price. Nevertheless, there are other aspects of performance than only speed. Another feature of the MacBook Pro 16.2-inch (2023) that first caught my attention was its speakers. The sound was really robust and full. In addition to this, I found that the fans only turned on while I was running benchmarking software.

Summary:

  • You can get as much as 96 GB of RAM, but it’s only accessible when you place an order.Options for the M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets
  • Not a significant advancement in comparison to the M1 Pro/Max series
  • Options for the M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets

Final Thoughts

If you bought a MacBook Pro M1 Pro or M1 Max, skip the 2023 update. If you’re upgrading or migrating to MacOS, this MacBook Pro 16.2-inch (2023) is a great notebook. Given how costly memory and storage are, it’s distressing to watch costs rise everywhere except the US. Thus, unlike the AirPods Pro or iPhone 14 Pro, this machine’s intended demographic is small.

Rumours imply a 15-inch MacBook Air M2, a cheap notebook that satisfies most people’s demands. The M2 processor can edit 4K video and process RAW photos, replacing the MacBook Pro. This MacBook Pro’s GPU and CPU power are unmatched. It features a better screen, many sizes, more connections, and charges faster. Apple made another great laptop.
